Labels attached to subscribers to track their interests, actions, or attributes.

Definition

Tagging is a flexible alternative to traditional list-based segmentation. Instead of moving subscribers between separate lists, you attach labels like 'interested-in-pricing', 'clicked-week-1-email', or 'bought-product-x'. Tags can be added automatically by behavior (clicked link → add tag) or manually. Kit (ConvertKit) and ActiveCampaign popularized tagging; Mailchimp adopted it later.
