Subject Line

The headline of the email — first thing recipients see in the inbox.

Definition

The subject line is the single biggest factor in open rate. Best practices: 30-60 characters, avoid all-caps and excessive punctuation (!!!), avoid trigger words (FREE, $$$, URGENT), use curiosity/specificity over hype, sometimes use emojis (test for your audience). Personalization with the recipient's first name lifts opens 5-15%.
